How does one become an exotic car salesman (is it even okay to call it that?)?

You probably would have to have a lot of previous experience selling cars.

Without actually knowing one whit about the actual answer, I would venture to forward a hypothesis. It's like any other desirable "thing", connections. One thing 28 years in business has taught me, of everything it takes to succeed, connections can make or break you (lack of) more consistently than absolutely any other factor. Connections make the difference.

Awwww, I love unbridled optimism! But, I can pretty much guarantee if you send Bob, with 30 solid years of selling Cavaliers and Malibus down at Big Jim's GM Metroplex and I send a 22 year old, fresh out of college with his BA in Finance and no work experience, but the son of the Ferrari dealership's owner's Frat Brother from his college alma mater, both down to apply for that position... Bob is gonna be still selling Chevys tomorrow.
Your boy, BJR

Walk in the dealership and ask for an application.

Put on a suit, go to the place, and ask to speak to somebody who can answer your question! :) I've done the same before, with positive results.
Building on Captain_Overboost's comment, people in Business love to speak to those of us brave enough to ask. Even if you have zero experience, you will never know what sort of experience they are looking for until you ask.

One would need to make sure to have experience in other jobs that contain the word "Exotic" in the title.

There is nothing to it... Most people that work at dealerships are nothing special- myself included. I worked at high end stores and the owners were absolutely ecstatic to have someone that was dependable and friendly to the customers. It was a bonus that I like cars, could field special requests and talk a bit of shop.
Many dealership employees are disgruntled, drug users and totally unreliable as employees. Dealer principles are constantly dealing with their employees' demons and generally feel like they are being taken advantage of. Working at a high end dealer is fun if you like cars, but if money is the principal motivator; go to a volume marque. I suggest tracking the dealer principal down and calling them direct, if you can get past the 'gate keepers,' chances are they will give you a shot. Just be prepared to wait a while to make some money... The more expensive the car... The less customers you will have.
